The Indian government, with the lead of Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched the ‘Digital India’ initiative to improve online infrastructure and increase internet accessibility among citizens (for example, linking rural areas to high-speed internet networks); thereby, empowering the country to become more digitally advanced. It aims to empower the country digitally in the domain of technology. The initiative encompasses the following three key objectives:
- Establish a secure and stable digital infrastructure
- Deliver digital services
- Ensure that every citizen has access to the Internet

Apart from the various initiatives taken by Digital India, there are several challenges faced by it. Some of the challenges and drawbacks of Digital Mission are mentioned below :
1.The daily internet speed, as well as the Wi-Fi hotspots, are slow as compared to other developed nations.
2.Most of the small and medium scale industries have to struggle a lot to adapt to the new modern technology.
3.Limited capability of entry-level smartphones for smooth internet access.
4.Lack of skilled manpower in the field of digital technology.
5.To look for about one million cybersecurity experts to check and monitor the growing menace of digital crime.
6.Lack of user education.

Yes, since the start of the campaign, India has experienced a digital revolution, with the government taking various digital initiatives like e-payments, digital literacy, and financial inclusion. This has triggered transformative developments in the country and is set to make India a global leader.

Arvind Gupta was the Founder of Digital India Foundation. He led the Prime Minister Narendra Modi's digital and social media campaign during the 2014 elections, for which he received the Path Breaker and Digital leader of the year awards. The campaign was then introduced by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on July 1st, 2015.
