Why storytelling. and design is such a. great combo ?

What makes great products stand tall amidst the mediocre ones? It’s the story or the intent that they bring along. Every great product is able to connect with the users as it speaks of a story. The art of storytelling has always been able to lure the users and the same ideology works with the designs too.

User should be able to interact with your design, so that they can connect with it and never be confused while navigating. One of the common mistakes that most product designers make is pay attention to making the design pretty rather than making them usable. However small, this can bring great consequences on the way your designs are perceived by the users.

Designers often try connecting their UI Design by deciding where each element fits. But the truth is, most of them aren’t really able to look at the broader perspective and most design bits just don’t even connect with each other. So the connectivity or the flow that should be inherited in every design is almost lost when the product is at the delivery stage.

It is true that the process of designing with a story is not simple. To begin with, create mock-ups to link the entire design process, create interactions based on how users would usually do and inspect every element along with the content that will be included in the page.

Why telling a story through your design is so impactful?

Early problem spotting

Since stories add another dimension to a design, they also help in highlighting mistakes in the early design stages. On the contrary, when you view a bunch of screens together, you may not be able to spot any design errors at once. Fixing even the tiniest design flaw at an early stage can eventually improve usability and user experience in the end. This will not only increase the customer engagement but also have a better impact on the conversions.

Create excellent user experience

What does your design hold when it is not able to bring mirth and excite your users to explore more? When your design is able to connect with the users, it indirectly gives them a force through every step. The essence of user experience will come to light only when your customers are delighted while using the product that you’ve designed.

It gives clarification and simplifies the design process

When the entire design team starts to work around the story that your product is built around, it becomes easier to connect with each other. Hours of design, development and strategy will all fall in place when every person from the team is on the same page. When goals are better understood, design accomplishments are huge and users will emotionally connect with your product.

UI Design when done with an intent will ultimately reflect in the product that you deliver and will deliver a great user experience too!
